31 Days of Horror – Day 30!

I’m starting to get into Giallo horror. For those that aren’t aware, Giallo is a film movement featuring movies that are usually murder mysteries with slasher elements, and sometimes supernatural aspects. They’re melodramatic, and usually shot with a very specific, over-stylized cinematography. And in the case of Argento, usually pretty psychedelic use of color.

I think The Conjuring is a decent enough movie. I think the sequel sucked. I think Annabelle is one of the god damn worst movies we’ve seen. It’s The Room of horror movies. It’s thoroughly hilarious. So, my little THING with the Warrens is that I don’t like them. I don’t believe in haunted houses, ghosts, or demonic possessions. I like movies about them. I also like movies about superheroes and gremlins and other fictional things that are not real. Like everything the Warrens have ever claimed to say or do and all the money they have made off of that ANYWAY THEY’RE NO WORSE THAN POLITICIANS SO I GUESS IT DOESN’T MATTER.

Wow. Sam Neill sure has been in a lot of Lovecraftian movies. And guess what! That’s today’s theme! So I guess, if we are going to talk about Sam Neill and Lovecraft, the obvious movie to talk about is John Carpenter’s In The Mouth of Madness. I have already seen it, so I’m not going to go into full, wild detail about it, but it is the most Lovecraftian of Neill’s movies, John Carpenter’s movies, and is one of the most Lovecraftian movies ever made. It’s also one of my absolute favorite horror movies, so I highly recommend it.
