Hey guys today I’m talking about some fun indie horror short films. Sometimes a short, sweet horror film is all you need, and there are some great independent filmmakers that put them up online for free. They’re worth checking out! Who knows, you could be seeing these filmmakers at YOUR LOCAL THEATER soon.

The Sleepover (2012)
Directed by Chris Cullari
Written by Chris Cullari and Jennifer Raite

The Sleepover is a short film about two boys at a sleepover. One boy just wants to go to bed, but the other wants to stay up, shoot off firecrackers, and watch porn. The boy that wants to sleep says they should just sleep because there is a local slasher that kills people. The other little boy probably should have checked the closet…

This is a fun movie that (I think) will be made into a full feature (the short is a proof of concept). If it does, I will be first in line, because it was great. The acting was good, and the idea was a really cool, unique take on the supernatural slasher formula. It was also really funny, and I love some humor in my horror.

Also I’m supposed to tell you that MY FRIEND Shampoo (her real name) showed me this. There, now you’re famous.

Waterborne (2014)
Directed By Ryan Coonan
Written By Ryan Coonan and Richard Barcaricchio
9min 34 sec

Waterborne is an Australian short film about a man who goes to test water, finds that it’s unsafe for consumption, and has a run-in with some zombie kangaroos.

It’s fun, spooky, funny, gory, and has some fun zombie kangaroo practical effects. It is reportedly serving as a prequel to a larger film currently in development, so look out for that in the next year or two!

The Last Halloween (2013)
Directed by Marc Roussel
Written by Marc Roussel and Mark Thibodeau
10min 15sec

The Last Halloween is about a group of trick or treaters in the post-apocalyptic small town that they live in. One is dressed as a ghost, one is the Grim Reaper, one is a witch, and one is the devil. They go from house to house, and the houses are scarier than their costumes. Eventually they come upon a stronghold where a man lives with his wife. He doesn’t let them in or give them anything. He probably should have…

The Last Halloween is a fun, cool movie that is based on a graphic novel by one of the film’s writers, Mark Thibodeau. The acting was good, the cinematography was good, and above all it was a fun and unique twist on Halloween movies. In some ways, it reminded me of this video game called Costume Quest (but that game wasn’t scary and the movie is). It also won best short film at the iHorror awards!
